The Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India, has issued a vacancy circular inviting applications for the post of Presiding Officer in the Central Government Industrial Tribunal-cum-Labour Courts (CGIT-cum-LC). These tribunals adjudicate industrial disputes and appeals under the EPF & MP Act, 1952. Eligibility Criteria
Educational Qualification and Experience
The eligibility criteria for appointment as Presiding Officer shall be governed by the provisions of the Tribunal Reforms Act, 2021 and the Tribunal (Conditions of Service) Rules, 2021, including any amendments thereto.
The applicant must be:
- A retired or serving judicial officer, or
- An individual who has held the post of Chairperson or Member of any Tribunal (as per the 2023 amendment), and is eligible for re-appointment.
The length of service and other eligibility conditions will be calculated as of the last date of submission of applications (03 July 2025).
Pay Scale and Service Conditions
The payment and service conditions for the post of Presiding Officer will be as per:
- Rule 10( 3) of the Tribunal( Conditions of Service) Rules, 2021
- Relevant Office Memoranda issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), particularly OM No. 3/3/2016-Estt(Pay II) dated 01 May 2017
Other benefits and allowances shall also be governed under the same Rules. The post is full-time in nature and appointments will be made on a tenure basis as per government norms.
Selection Process
The selection for the post of Presiding Officer will be made by a Search-cum-Selection Committee constituted under the Tribunal Reforms Act, 2021. The process includes:
- Scrutiny of Applications: The committee will assess the suitability of applicants based on their qualifications and experience.
- Shortlisting: Based on initial scrutiny, candidates will be shortlisted for further evaluation.
- Personal Interaction: Shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interaction/interview.
