The Ahmedabad Division of Western Railway invites applications from eligible doctors for the post of Contract Medical Practitioners (CMPs) / General Duty Medical Officers (GDMOs) on a purely contract basis. This engagement will initially be for a period of one year and may be renewed annually based on performance and administrative requirements. The total duration of contractual engagement shall not exceed 12 years for fresh candidates or 7 years for retired government medical officers, or until the age of 65 years—whichever is earlier. The contract is temporary and does not guarantee regular employment with Indian Railways.
This opportunity is open to both doctors from the open market and retired government doctors who meet the prescribed eligibility criteria. Preference will be given to candidates who have previously worked in similar posts under Indian Railways.

Eligibility
Educational Qualifications
- General Duty Medical Officer (GDMO):
- Possession of an MBBS qualification accredited by the Medical Council of India (MCI) or National Medical Commission (NMC), listed in the First or Second Schedule, or Part II of the Third Schedule, excluding licentiate certificates, as defined under the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956.
- Individuals holding qualifications listed under Part II of the Third Schedule are obligated to fulfill the conditions prescribed in Section 13(3) of the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956.
- Specialist (if applicable):
- Degree such as MD/MS/DNB recognized by the MCI/NMC.
Age Limit
- Maximum age for open market candidates: 53 years as on 01 June 2025.
- Relaxation in upper age limit:
- SC/ST candidates: 5 years
- OBC candidates: 3 years
For Retired Government Doctors
- Retired doctors from Indian Railways, Central Government, or State Government may apply.
- The upper age limit for applicants is 65 years as of the application date.
- They may be appointed on a contract basis for a maximum of 7 years or until reaching 65 years of age, whichever is earlier.
- Their monthly remuneration combined with pension shall not exceed their last pay drawn.
Salary
The consolidated monthly remuneration offered for the position is:
- General Duty Medical Officer (CMP – Full-Time): Rs. 95,000/- per month
Additional Notes:
- If Railway accommodation is provided, deductions for HRA and license fee will be made from the monthly salary, as per applicable rates.
- Remuneration for retired government doctors will be fixed, ensuring that their pension plus contract salary does not exceed their last drawn salary.
Selection Process
Candidates will be shortlisted based on a walk-in interview process. No written test will be conducted.
